Mercury: Mercury, or Hermes was a Roman god who had wings on his hat and ankles. He was the messenger for the other gods and traveled very fast. Compared to other planets, Mercury goes around the sun relatively fast; only in 88 days!
Earth: Someone named Earth for it's land, which he thought covered our planet the most. But maybe there's a mistake; there's actually more water than land.
Mars: Mars named after the Roman god of war, simply because it looked blood red from our view (it really isn't).
Jupiter: Jupiter (or Zeus) was the king of all the gods. And the planet Jupiter is the largest of the four biggest planets in the solar system, which includes Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune
Neptune: Neptune was the god of the deep blue seas. Therefore, the planet he was named after was just as blue as the ocean
Pluto: Pluto, or Hades, was the god of the Underground. Being our tiniest planet, Pluto was the last planet discovered in the known solar system, and also the furthest away from the sun.
I haven't included Venus, Saturn, and Uranus yet.

wow, I learned a lot from your article here and it was fun!
Reminds me of the famous Lord of the Ring settings, there were nine human kings among the many who has a ring. And we have nine planets in the solar system, what an coincidence!
There is also anothing provoking fact revealed in your article. That is, there are so many myths, or misceptions, coming to how people perceive the natural world. Such as the wrong name for Earth.
Great article!
